Astrophytum asterias cv. Ooibo Kabuto

Common Name(s)/Synonym(s): Sand Dollar Cactus, Texas Star Cactus

Origin: A cultivar of Astrophytum asterias.

Description: A small cactus with a solitary, spherical, apically depressed stem with usually 8 ribs. The larger, extra woolly areoles (Ooibo) is what sets it apart from your standard Astrophytum asterias. The colour of the woolly areoles also varies from pure white to yellowish, orangey or brownish. Besides for the woolly areoles (Ooibo), they do not have your typical white spots, but intense white spots (Kabuto).

Care: They do best in sunny conditions and require regular watering in growing season. They need a fairly dry winter to avoid root rot, so should be planted in a well draining soil mixture.

*These plants are sold/couriered bare root without the pot and soil. Currently planted in 7.5cm square pots.
