Astrophytum capricorne
Common Name(s)/Synonym(s): Goat’s Horn Cactus, Echinocactus capricornis
Origin: Native to Mexico.
Description: This strange-looking cactus with a solitary green stem that is more or less covered with the typical white woolly flecks and clusters of long twisted or curved spines along the ribs. This slow growing cactus can reach up to 1.2m tall and 15cm in diameter. It usually has 8 ribs and up to 10 spines per areole. The young specimens are spherical but soon become ovoid and eventually columnar, spines are usually grey to brown and up to 7.5cm long.
Care: They do best in sunny conditions and require regular watering in growing season. They need a fairly dry winter to avoid root rot, so should be planted in a well draining soil mixture.
*These plants are sold/couriered bare root without the pot and soil. Currently planted in 7.5cm square pots.
